In a team of three, I was the only UX and UI designer tasked to do research on existing competitors and create UI elements and by applying UI and UX principles
It began with meeting up with Victor and introducing me to the project. The vision and of the product stood out to me and it I wanted to be apart of his mission, it motivated me to conduct more research in the industry, and I was super enthusiastic about being able to contribute my skills, create an MVP for the first time, and be a part of this start-up. This opportunity allowed me to gain valuable insight into what working at a start-up is like while also enhancing and refining my skills as a designer.
I created a cite-map for myself, Victor, and Hank to help visualise and see where paths will be connected. In addition of adding interactive features using existing gesture controls that will access the content. Figuring out the user flow while also suggesting features, elements that can help improve the experience in certain tasks.
From user and desk research, I sketched concepts from my personal experience using entertainment, social media apps such as Netflix, Instagram, and so on, as a reference to help me. I wanted to include common and familiar controls that users who use these apps because it allowing users to transfer similar patterns and navigation to allow easy onboarding.
My objective is to create an interactive and positive experience by applying key UI elements such as contrast, hierarchy, and font sizes and UX principles such as affordances, signifiers, and feedback. While also keeping in mind only focusing on essential features that will be presented to investors.
After many discussions of what screen would benefit the user and align with the principles I learned for UX and UI, we concluded with the first iteration as it was different compared to the traditional boxes, it visually presented everything at once, and there were conversations floating of integrating this concept to virtual reality in the future that was stored at the back of our heads. Finalising iteration one to be further developed along with pages that will be linked.
Here are the screens that were going to be shown in the prototype.
WORK IN PROGRESS
MiPage offers a personalised quadrant view tailored to the user's preferences. Users can easily capture and categorise content, for example taking a screenshot of a restaurant and then sending it to the app. The most recent screenshot is prominently featured on MiPage, with seamless access to previous saves by tapping into the screenshot.
There were a lot of considerations in this design, there was limited screen space so I carefully considered the presentation of elements, including animations, timing, and sizing. The central user icon served as a hub for features like friends and settings. I emphasized intuitive gestures, leveraging familiar actions like dragging down the centre icon to reveal additional settings upon release. To enhance user understanding, I focused on affordances that align with existing user behaviour, aiming for a design that feels natural and user-friendly.
Facilitating seamless connections with friends and family is a key focus of Tribes. I aimed to create an accessible and user-friendly experience. Tribes enables users to create multiple groups that meets their preferences, such as friends or work colleagues. Within these Tribes, members can forward questions and respond to questions, fostering dynamic interactions and recommendations.
I achieved by adding affordances, signifiers, recognisable icons, and colours that users are already familiar with when adding people.
User’s can interact with members within their Tribe, asking questions, recommendations, and then pushing it out to the users. I created an animation demonstrating this feature and how it would appear on the other user's side. The members can respond with anything they like, agreeing to something or giving out a recommendation.
Tribes enable users to search and filter content using specific tags, enabling easy discovery. Results include items saved by Tribe members, prompting interaction and conversation. I simplified the interface by incorporating user icons, and a "popular" tag indicates widespread saves. In addition of numeric indicators quantify the number of people, optimizing space in the result. (Demonstrated in previous video)
